e-nnovation conference 2011

Hi from Poland! I’m currently attending one of my favorite tech conferences in Europe, e-nnovation conference in Poznan. It’s a conference sponsored by the Allegro Group, Poland’s eBay and I must say, one of the becons of entrepreneurship in Eastern Europe.

Tomorrow I’ll be giving a talk called “Why startups suck (BIG TIME) at communicating and how to fix it“. The title is pretty self explainatory, but I wanted to stress the importance of the concept. Its funny that, the more I talk with the media, the more I realize the issue is on the startup side, not on the media one.

Today I had a very interesting conversation with one of the speakers at the conference. He was complaning about the brand dissonance he was experiencing between audience and speakers. Just to be clear, the conference is amazing, the panel of speakers is incredible, people that are top noch and come from all places of the globe, including Silicon Valley, Japan or Canada.

The problem is, most speakers are talking about entrepreneurship or startups, while the mixture in the audience is quite different. Speaking today with a startup based in Poznan, they didn’t know that the conference was happening and that it was an amazing opportunity for them to network and learn cool stuff.

Nevertheless, I’ve seen an amazing improvement on the audience from last year’s edition. I trully think the guys at e-nnovation are doing a superb job in unleashing the entrepreneur spirit to a country that isn’t know for it (like my own home country, Spain). So kudos for them, but we still need ti push it even harder. We’re not reaching the right audience and that’s something we need to fix.
